The songbirds are singing from the treetops. The daffodils and tulips are raising their heads. We’ve even had a little warmth and sunshine. Spring has officially arrived and there is hope in the air. Over the past 12 months, we’ve become more in tune with nature. We’ve been going for walks instead of sitting in the pub. We’ve been running through the parks instead of working out in the gym. The great outdoors has never been more inviting. We’re noticing the buds on the trees, and the blossom all around.
As lockdown eases, getting dressed in the morning is starting to look a little more exciting, too. We may still be working from home, but we are thinking about dressing up to meet a friend for a walk in the park. We might even be thinking about lunch in somebody’s garden, or a cocktail or two with friends at dusk.
So what do we want to wear right now? Let’s start with colour.
Colour is so important for our mood. It can make us feel lighter and happier, it can signify a change in our lives and make us feel more positive about ourselves and the world around us. So you might want to try the new colour palette at Ninety Percent, chosen with a fresh start and brighter days in mind. Sunny daffodil yellows, mottled tulip pinks, the palest sage green and cornflower blue are colours that reflect the natural world and our desire to get into nature. Introduce any of these colours to your wardrobe and you will feel fresh and ready to face the world.
We don’t want to look as though we are trying too hard, but we also want to look as though we care and are starting to make a bit more of an effort.
We are introducing a new Lyocell yarn for lightweight tops, trousers, cardigans and dresses – perfect for layering until the weather gets warmer. These pieces are soft but keep their shape beautifully and will become your new wardrobe staples. We source our Lyocell from Tencel which is using Refibra closed loop technology to upcycle cotton scraps into new virgin fibre, giving second life to pre-consumer textile waste that would typically go to landfill.
We know that comfort is still key, so alongside our classic GOTS organic cotton sweats, cycling shorts and polo shirts, we’ve introduced some luxuriously slinky knits into the mix to smarten things up a little. As well as our signature tie-dye, and bold gradient stripes, we are introducing a subtle hand-mottled dye effect for our organic cotton loopback basics.
We are thinking about investing in some lightweight knits to throw over a dress as the weather stays a little changeable.
New textile innovation means we now have a delicious mix of 54% organic cotton and 46% organic linen for beautiful quality lightweight knits with a slightly marly finish, made from cotton and flax plants grown without chemicals. We know how important it is when enjoying walks in the countryside that the clothes you are wearing have been grown with nature rather than against it.
In case you want to know the nitty gritty, the yarn is from an Italian supplier, and the knitwear is all made in our LEED platinum certified Echotex factory in Bangladesh which is leading the way in energy efficiency, best practice in water usage and management, and dyeing processes (our dyehouse waste is converted into fertiliser).
As we look ahead to warmer days, and a loosening of restrictions, Ninety Percent is a step ahead of the curve with everything you need to freshen up your wardrobe whilst continuing to take care of the health and wellbeing of ourselves, the people who make our collections happen and minimising our impact on the environment.
We hope you enjoy getting out a bit more, seeing friends and family, and enjoying dressing up again. We’d love to hear from you. Let us know what you think of our new colours, and better still, share your pictures. We’re looking forward to seeing you on your walks, in your gardens, out in the park, and enjoying the brighter days of spring. Tag us wearing your pieces from the new collection and we’ll share your pictures. Together we will get there #ForTheWorldWeWant
